It was President Abraham Lincoln who used the phrase, "the better angels of our nature," to conclude his first inaugural address, here in Washington, DC, USA, where I live, in March 1861. That phrase comes often to my mind in my angelic work and prayers these days as President Obama and Congress continue their negotiations on the federal budget to prevent the Fiscal Cliff from kicking in January 2013.
Angels! There are many even here in Washington, DC, although most people here do not believe in them. If you look hard enough, you see not only angel statuary in churches here, but also on federal buildings and monuments here, even the U.S. Capitol.
The Book of Revelation in the Bible speaks of the Seven Cities in Asia Minor having protecting angels. So also with each city and nation on Planet Earth, each has its own angel.
And yet, even in our nation's capital here, there are many earth angels. Most are not readily noticed, but their presence enhance this city of politics. I know a few earth angels personally. Their presence comforts and reassures me. One such earth angel, I see occasionally at the coffeehouse I frequent. He is not aware of this right now in his life, but maybe someday he will awaken to this awareness of himself.
Thank God for angels!
